Post 22: Foz do Iguacu

We woke up at 4am this morning, checked out of our hotel, and headed for the airport. It was crazy to be leaving Curitiba already. It felt like we had just gotten there, but I was also very excited for our next city, Foz do Iguacu. The airport we flew into was super tiny and we walked off the plane right onto the tarmac. The first thing I noticed was just how humid it is here. I don't think I've ever been anywhere this humid before. The sky was also really pretty although foggy.

We arrived at the hostel around 9am, and I spent a few minutes just looking around and taking pictures. It feels like a garden here. There's plants everywhere, outdoor furniture, and lots of shade. There are cats roaming around everywhere, and I've made friends with them already of course. And they have parakeets!

We went out for breakfast/lunch down the street at a bakery and then most of us passed out for a few hours out of exhaustion. I spent some time outside after that, relaxing and writing blog posts, and then at 5 we headed to the point of the three borders between Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina.

As we drove up to the border, I was imagining a little plaque on the ground or something just to point out the spot where the borders meet. I had no idea that I would be arriving at a full on party. You had to pay an entrance fee, but once you got in, there were lights and fountains everywhere, there was live music, and even a restaurant. The point where the borders meet is actually in the middle of the point where the Iguazu and Parana Rivers meet, so you can look out onto the point from each country. Each country has a small monument painted in the colors of their country and each monument is visible from the coast. Brazil definitely had the most partying going on.

We ate dinner there, which was really good, and then later on we got to see a performance featuring the traditional dances of each Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. This was so cool to watch. My favorite was actually the Argentinian tango, but Paraguay's was really cool as well. So was Brazil's, and I was so enthralled that I didn't get a video. Ah, I guess all of them were awesome.
