Post 7: Laundry Disco

Yesterday was a relaxing day.

In between classes, we spent time looking for a birthday gift for Prof. Pfluger. We eventually found a nice card at a cute shop down the street. Then we walked around the Vila Madelena neighborhood for a while, which was fun because we haven't had much time to just look around yet. I took a lot of pictures of the area. I have been wanting to do this for awhile because I really want to remember the little details about this neighborhood. I want to remember, for example, what it was like to just walk down the street. Hopefully these pictures will help with that.

For lunch, a few of us went to a "Tex Mex" restaurant which was interesting because it was a Brazilian take on American food. It was kind of funny - they were serving a bunch of different kinds of food that are all stereo-typically American, not just what we consider Tex Mex. They had a lot of meat and mac and cheese. I won't lie, ad much as I am loving Brazilian food, it was pretty nice to have some food that reminded us of home for a little while.

After our second lecture, I headed out with a group of us to go do laundry and a laundromat in the neighborhood called "House of Bubbles." Now, as we headed out, I was just expecting your typical laundromat. You know, white walls and white washers and dryers, stacked up on top of each other and silence. Oh, no. This was much different. We walked in, and I immediately noticed the disco ball on the ceiling. They were blasting alternative music and there was a bar serving alcohol in the back. They had purple lights on. There were cool chairs and tables and couches to chill on while you wait for your laundry.

There are times when we are here and a few of us will just look at each other like "where are we???" and laugh. And this was definitely one of those times. It's an ingenious idea, and a perfect example of just one of the many cool things we have seen here in São Paulo so far.
