Post 20: Rua XV de Novembro
We started today off with a lecture on wind energy and nuclear energy, and then we headed out right away to go to Rua XV de Novembro. This street is closed off for pedestrians and has lots of shops and restaurants along it. We took a bus there, which was super cool because we finally got to experience the bus system first hand.
The street was so cool. It was paved with black and white mosaic tiles, lined with flowers, and there were several fountains and sculptures along it. It was really pretty and fun to people watch on.
I spent the day with Aika, and we wandered into random stores and found random and weird things that they were selling. We noticed that they had a lot of stores called "China Stores" which were basically like the equivalent of our dollar stores. It was so odd but it made the afternoon interesting.
The weirdest part of today was when we decided to try McDonald's in Brazil. We wanted to see just how different it was here compared to the US. It definitely was different. I got this sandwich called the "McBrasil" which was basically two beef patties, a fried cheese patty thing (kind of like a mozzarella stick but in a patty form), and this strange mayo sauce that we couldn't quite identify. It was good, and I'm glad I had the experience, but I don't think I would eat it again just because of how filling it was.
After our afternoon on this street, we headed to a company called Renova Green. This company designs LEED certified buildings in Curitiba. They explained their design process and how they use solar in their designs. They also gave us a tour of their building, which was sustainable as well.
We headed back to the hotel, had some time to relax, and then 12 of us decided to go out to eat. We started walking until we stumbled upon this strange entrance that looked like an entrance to a medieval dungeon. We were a bit confused but definitely curious, so we looked up where we were on google maps and discovered that it was a medieval themed restaurant with good ratings. We walked in and everything was lit up by candlelight, knight costumes lined the walls, and at the head of our table sat this huge metal sword. The food was delicious.
You never know what you are going to be doing in a day, and today I ate dinner at a medieval-themed Italian restaurant in Brazil. What a crazy but amazing thing to be able to say.

I love the hats! What is the Significance of November 15. They actually named a street after it.
ReplyDeleteI also love the restaurant. The 12 apostles at King Arthur’s table eating McDonald’s something or other. Dilly Dilly!!!! 😍
Haha, you know, I have no idea!! I'll find out, because I'm curious now. And haha yes the restaurant was amazing!
