Post 12: Ibirapuera Park

Yesterday was a very relaxed day. We had a short energy lecture in the morning on transportation. This is particularly interesting to me as a Civil Engineering Major because it covered things like designing more efficient public transportation systems and bike ways. After our lecture, a bunch of us got food and drinks at Coffee Lab, and I had the most amazing grilled cheese I've ever tasted. I fell in love with the atmosphere of this place again, so I had to take some pictures of the greenery. We also noticed that we were sitting right under a starfruit tree!

After Coffee Lab, we headed straight for Ibirapuera Park, where we stayed the entire day, leaving at 5. This park has been open since the 50s, so it's somewhat new. It's filled all types of trees from around the world, bike paths, food stands, weird looking pigeons I've never seen before, and a few really cool museums. There's also a huge pond in the middle of it which makes for some really pretty views. My phone died while we were there, so unfortunately I didn't get many pictures. But I also think that staying disconnected for awhile helped me to be able to experience it better.

While we were at the park, about half of us went to the Afro-Brazilian Museum. This was incredible. It was so interesting to see the similarities between the history of the United States and Brazil. We have so much in common.

One of the coolest exhibits we saw was a depiction of the enslavement of Africans made completely out of recycled materials. It was so detailed and interesting to look at.

They had a Capoeira section, too, which was my favorite part (obviously, haha, I never stop talking about it).

We ended our day with an incredible view of the southern half of the city from a rooftop. We watched the sunset and took lots of photos.
